  1. What was your favorite kind of car when you were young? Did you ever get to have one of your own?

I didn’t and still don’t care too much about cars. As long as it gets me to where I have to go, I’m fine.

My first car was a Datsun 710 – I learned to drive with it and drove it for a long time!

My second car was a Gran Prix.

My third car was a Ford Festiva. The only reason I gave it up was I could no longer find parts for it. This is the car with Angel M.C. on top.

My fourth and current car is a PT Cruiser. I’m still paying for it. I can’t wait until it’s paid off! That’s my sweet Toby asking to go for a ride!!

  1. Did you like to roller skate? Did you go to a skating rink or did you skate on the sidewalk/street at home? If you went to the skating rink, did you spend more time skating or socializing?

I hated roller skating. I was and am still afraid of falling. I was seriously clumsy when I was a kid and fell a lot. Now my knees are shot after 20 years of food service and retail so a fall today would mean serious trouble for me!

A to Z Update!

I’ve been mostly focusing on the upcoming Halloween Challenge (click on the badge below for details to join in!) but I did work on the collages a bit.

I started on “C” – it may be finished but I haven’t decided yet.img_3941

“E” is just barely started.img_3942

“F” is mostly done – I’ll set it aside for a while and then look at it again; if I like it, then I’ll seal it, set it aside and it won’t see the light of day again until next year!img_3943

Click on the badge for more about the Halloween Challenge!! It’s open to all!!

  1. Do you remember where you were and/or what you were doing when the Space Shuttle Challenger exploded? This happened on 28 January 1986.  Were there any big events going on in your personal life at the time?

I was walking through the living room of the home I shared with a mom and her two kids. They weren’t there at the time but the TV was on, I had just come in from work and the news was on. I was shocked and so saddened –  and then the local evening news came on and they didn’t even mention the disaster!! I was so angry I called them! The station sent me a letter  saying that they covered only local news and not national. That has changed now – with all our local channels carrying national and local.

I bought a copy of these magazines and still have them – the images are so powerful, at least to me.

  1. Who was your favorite TV character? What did you like about them? Who did you like the least?

Ever since I read about this challenge I’ve been trying to figure this answer out – but I can’t think of anyone in particular so I guess that’s my answer! I have my favorites today but as for in days past, no one in particular!

Since my 19-Somethin’ Challenge answer is so small I’m going to post the next phase of my Altered Deck of Cards. The first post is HERE.

The next suit is Diamonds, with a theme of jewelry – very expensive jewelry. Please don’t strain your eyes trying to read the quote; it follows after the photos.

First the cards with the initial designs –

Next, the final cards with more jewels and the quote added:

“The search for God is a lifestyle decision. Fill your mind with the meaningless stimuli of a world preoccupied with meaningless things, and it will not be easy to feel peace in your heart. Fill you mind with the things of God, and peace will flow into you like water into the ground.”  Marianne Williams, Illuminata

  1. Did you get into MTV? If not, what was your favorite music-based TV program?

mtv-logo-2I loved MTV when it was all music.

062315-purewow-mtv-vj-embed-2 My favorite VJ was Adam Curry; he had the most beautiful mane of blonde hair I ever saw on a man – he was what I called yummy!

  1. Did you get into any of the toy/game crazes, such as the Rubik’s Cube, Polly Pockets, or Cabbage Patch dolls or anything like that?

I never solved my Rubik’s Cube; rubiks_cube

I never cared for dolls like Polly Pockets polly-pocket

  1. Did any of the men in your family have big sideburns? What did you think of it then? What do you think of it now, looking back?

Yes, my father had large sideburns. I didn’t think anything about them then but now I find them quaint.

I’m doubling up on my posts since 19-Somethin’ was so short. I’m taking a break from the A to Z Challenge Collage Project and started something new.

0814-bSeveral months ago my nephew sent me a deck of cards from the MGM Grand Casino/Hotel in Las Vegas and I’ve decided to alter them. I’ve altered playing cards before – its been a long while – I created a “Madonna Deck” and an “Adonis Deck” – which I will post photos of those later.

0814-aThis deck – as yet unnamed – came as a result of going through so many fashion magazines and looking at all the ads for the excesses of life – diamond covered watches and super expensive jewelry – it was all very pretty – and I wanted to do something with those gorgeous pictures. So the cards from the MGM Grand seemed like the perfect canvas for such excess.

I divided the cards up into their suits and decided on themes – Clubs – watches; Diamonds – jewelry; Hearts – still working on this theme, but possibly something to do with women or beauty; and Spades – Butterflies and Birds, or flying.

I’ve already finished the Club suite, “Time”-  Don’t strain your eyeballs, the poem follows the cards…!scan0001-1scan0002-1

Here is the poem I used…

Let us view with joy and mirth
All the clocks upon the earth
Holding time with busy tocking
Ticking booming clanging clocking
Anxiously unraveling
Time’s travelling
Through the stars and winds and tides.
Who can tell where time abides?

Foolish clocks, all time was broken
When that first great Word was spoken.
Cease we now this silly fleeing
From earth’s time, for time’s a being
And adoring
Bows before Him
Who upon the throne is seated.
Time, defeated, wins, is greeted.

Clocks know not time’s loving wonder
Day above as night swings under,
Turning always to the Son,
Time’s begun, is done, does run
Singing warning
Of the morning
Time, mass, space, a mystery
Of eternal trinity.

Time needs make no poor apology
For bursting forth from man’s chronology
Laughs in glee as human hours
Dance before the heavenly powers.
Time’s undone
Because the Son
Swiftly calls the coming light
That will end the far-spent night.

“Let us view with joy and mirth”
By Madeleine L’Engle
The holes in the cards are where they will be bound! I’ll post another update later on in the week!

  1. When did you first have a microwave in your home? Were you afraid that it would make you sick or did you embrace this “new” technology?

I think we got the microwave in the mid 70’s; it was huge – by today’s standards anyway. I was more fascinated by it than scared. It cooked food so quickly!

  1. What fashion did you like the most, and the least, from your younger years?

In high school I loved plaid bell bottoms!! These are images from the internet – I couldn’t any of me with some on!

Fashions I hated were prairie style maxi dresses!! (Also from the internet)full_size

Later on in the 80’s I loved shoulder pads – the bigger the better!! I loved the way we dressed in the 80’s. People may think it’s tacky now, but it brings back wonderful memories for me!!

(In case you’re wondering, starting from top row, left, the movies are Working Girl; Heathers; Dirty Dancing (I think); and TV shows (bottom row), Designing Women and Dynasty. I didn’t watch Dynasty but I loved and still love Designing Women.)
