Weekly Weather: Drought

For this round of Weekly Weather collages I decided to do another atlas as my base. However, the pages/signatures came apart from the binding so I’ll be doing each two page spread separately and when I come to the end of the year or when we start repeating the weather topics, I’ll bind them all together.

This week’s topic is Drought (a prolonged period of abnormally low rainfall; a shortage of water resulting from this; synonyms: dry spell, lack of rain, shortage of water.)

For this week’s collage I used 3 pages, folding the middle page and elements on it. This resulted in a lot of surface to create and many different views. I was blessed to find plenty of drought images to cover the surface, which, like other weather types (sleet, hurricane, halo/sundog) are harder to find in magazines (my favorite source material). I could print images from the internet but I prefer the glossiness of printed pictures instead. As always, click on the image to bigify!!

Weekly Weather: SunShower

For this round of Weekly Weather collages I decided to do another atlas as my base. However, the pages/signatures came apart from the binding so I’ll be doing each two page spread separately and when I come to the end of the year or when we start repeating the weather topics, I’ll bind them all together.

First up is Sun Shower. Don’t know what sun shower is? I call it ‘liquid sunshine’ – its where the sun is shining and raining at the same time! Here’s my interpretation of liquid sunshine…

Weekly Weather: Choose Your Own

This week’s Weekly Weather topic is “Choose Your Own.” I chose “Hot” because while making the other collage for Hot I ran across some really cool fire images and wanted to do a separate spread for that. This is also the last post on the original Weekly Weather calendar that started in Spring 2016. Next week starts the new scheduled posts. I’m looking forward to new Weekly Weather collages!!!

To remind you, I altered an atlas with the weather-themed collages. To see the other entries, please click on the page “Weekly Weather Challenge.” (I will eventually update the page with all the links!)  Click on the badge below to find out about how to join the challenge!

The Poetry of Tree Girl

When I looked back at the posts, some of the poetry was hard to see and I didn’t separate it properly for posting. When my mom first looked at the book she read the poetry as all one poem – and she said it didn’t make sense to her. Hmmm. She’s right. Lesson definitely learned! Anyway to that end, here are the poems used, on the days they were posted. Enjoy the magic of Emily Dickinson!

Part 2 & 3

We grow accustomed to the Dark –
When light is put away –
As when the Neighbor holds the Lamp
To witness her Goodbye –

A Moment – We uncertain step
For newness of the night –
Then – fit our Vision to the Dark –
And meet the Road – erect –

And so of larger – Darknesses –
Those Evenings of the Brain –
When not a Moon disclose a sign –
Or Star – come out – within –

The Bravest – grope a little –
And sometimes hit a Tree
Directly in the Forehead –
But as they learn to see –

Either the Darkness alters –
Or something in the sight
Adjusts itself to Midnight –
And Life steps almost straight.

Part 4

I robbed the Woods—
The trusting Woods.
The unsuspecting Trees
Brought out their Burs and mosses
My fantasy to please.
I scanned their trinkets curious—I grasped—I bore away—
What will the solemn Hemlock—
What will the Oak tree say?

Part 4 & 5

The Trees like Tassels—hit—and swung—
There seemed to rise a Tune
From Miniature Creatures
Accompanying the Sun—

Far Psalteries of Summer—
Enamoring the Ear
They never yet did satisfy—
Remotest—when most fair

The Sun shone whole at intervals—
Then Half—then utter hid—
As if Himself were optional
And had Estates of Cloud

Sufficient to enfold Him
Eternally from view—
Except it were a whim of His
To let the Orchards grow—

A Bird sat careless on the fence—
One gossipped in the Lane
On silver matters charmed a Snake
Just winding round a Stone—

Bright Flowers slit a Calyx
And soared upon a Stem
Like Hindered Flags—Sweet hoisted—
With Spices—in the Hem—

‘Twas more—I cannot mention—
How mean—to those that see—
Vandyke’s Delineation
Of Nature’s—Summer Day!

Part 6

Nature—sometimes sears a Sapling—
Sometimes—scalps a Tree—
Her Green People recollect it
When they do not die—

Fainter Leaves—to Further Seasons—
Dumbly testify—
We—who have the Souls—
Die oftener—Not so vitally—

Part 7

“Heaven”—is what I cannot reach!
The Apple on the Tree—
Provided it do hopeless—hang—
That—”Heaven” is—to Me!

The Color, on the Cruising Cloud—
The interdicted Land—
Behind the Hill—the House behind—
There—Paradise—is found!

Her teasing Purples—Afternoons—
The credulous—decoy—
Enamored—of the Conjuror—
That spurned us—Yesterday!

Before you thought of spring,
Except as a surmise,
You see, God bless his suddenness,
A fellow in the skies
Of independent hues,
A little weather-worn,
Inspiriting habiliments
Of indigo and brown.

With specimens of song,
As if for you to choose,
Discretion in the interval,
With gay delays he goes
To some superior tree
Without a single leaf,
And shouts for joy to nobody
But his seraphic self!
