Weekly Weather: Tornado

Today’s weather is Tornado! (A localized, violently destructive windstorm occurring over land, especially in the Middle West, and characterized by a long, funnel-shaped cloud extending toward the ground and made visible by condensation and debris.)

Weekly Weather: Tornado

For this round of Weekly Weather collages I decided to do another atlas as my base. However, the pages/signatures came apart from the binding so I’ll be doing each two page spread separately and when I come to the end of the year or when we start repeating the weather topics, I’ll bind them all together.

This week’s topic is Tornado (a rapidly rotating column of air that is in contact with both the surface of the Earth and a cumulonimbus cloud or, in rare cases, the base of a cumulus cloud. They are often referred to as twisters, whirlwinds or cyclones, although the word cyclone is used in meteorology to name a weather system with a low-pressure area in the center around which winds blow counterclockwise in the Northern Hemisphere and clockwise in the Southern.)

Weekly Weather: Tornado!

This week’s weather topic is Tornado!!

This topic was particularly troublesome for me. I chose hummingbirds because of the tornado-like votexes their wings make while hovering. It was the closest thing I could get to tornados!! At least without showing the real thing.tornado-full

right page detail, tornado – if you look really close you can see the tornado vortex off the hummingbird’s wings in these infrared photos. (Thank you Smithsonian Magazine!)tornado-right-detail

This is an attempt to meet a photo challenge but I decided to go with a doodle! Do you see the house and the bicycle (a’la Dorothy & Toto)? It meets the photo part of the challenge because I took a photo of it in order to load in into the pc!
