Sharing my world – Memorial Day edition

This week Cee’s Photography Blog is asking 3 questions for Share Your World Challenge.

 

 

 

Here are her questions:

• Every country in the world has lost men and women in some kind of Armed Forces.  When does your country celebrate or morn their deaths? 

In the United States we mourn the loss of our war heroes on Memorial Day which occurs in May. Unfortunately it has turned into, for the most part, a celebration of consumerism rather than a solemn day of remembrance.

• What is your favorite holiday or holidays?

My favorite holiday of the year is Thanksgiving. It’s all about food, family and tradition.

• How do you celebrate that holiday?

Going home for a huge meal of once-a-year-only foods! When I was a kid the family included grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and the proverbial ‘kid’s table’. Now it is considerably smaller but nonetheless wonderful. Grandmother’s recipes for pecan pie, sweet potato casserole, three bean salad, cornbread dressing, ambrosia, potato salad – my mouth waters at the thought of it!!! There is no shopping or football tradition for us – just food, family and after-dinner board games!!!
